Legendary steeplechaser Ezekiel Kemboi has shared wise words of advise to upcoming athletes.

Legendary steeplechaser Ezekiel Kemboi is mentoring young athletes and he is hopeful that they will grow to follow in his footsteps and maintain the legacy of Kenya in athletics.

He encouraged the youngsters to maintain simplicity and be themselves all the time. The four-time World champion also insisted that they should avoid engaging in risky activities like doping to get wealthy.

“I have more than 60 athletes that I am mentoring and I provide them with basic needs and train them because I want them to be like me…I want to leave a legacy.

"To the upcoming athletes, I would advise them to always be simple and to be themselves. They should avoid greed and just take a day at a time and things will work out well for them,” he told SPM Buzz.

The two-time Olympic champion won his first world title at the 2009 World Championships in Berlin and defended his title successfully three times before hanging his spikes.

Kemboi was well known for his signature dancing style after the race and many youngsters look up to him for mentorship.

Meanwhile, Kemboi also lauded youngster Kelvin Kiptum who stunned the masses to shutter the marathon world record at the Chicago Marathon.

The 23-year-old clocked 2:00:35 to win the race and completely obliterated Eliud Kipchoge’s previous record of 2:01:09 which was set during the 2022 Berlin Marathon.

“We come from the same county, Elgeyo Marakwet, and I was so happy when he broke the world record. Eliud Kipchoge is also my good friend, both of us are legends,” Kemboi said.
