Kishane Thompson holds off Oblique Seville to win Jamaican Olympic trials in world leading time

Kishane Thompson has clocked a world-leading time following his impeccable run to win the men's title at the Jamaican Olympic trials.

Kishane Thompson has announced his return, taking the win in the men’s 100m final at the Jamaican Olympic trials.

Thompson has been battling injuries but from his performance at the National Stadium in Kingston, the youngster seems to have regained his shape and is ready for the Olympic Games in Paris, France.

The final saw Thompson cut the tape in an impressive world leading time of 9.77 to win the race as Oblique Seville finished second in 9.82. Ackeem Blake completed the podium, stopping the clock at 9.92. The time the 22-year-old has clocked makes him the ninth fastest man in history.

Ferdinand Omanyala’s time of 9.79 was the fastest in the world this year but the youngster has bettered it, going sub 10 in all his three races he has competed in.

Thompson was opening his 2024 season at the event, starting off with a personal best time of 9.82 in the preliminaries before impressing in the semifinal with an impressive win where he clocked 9.85 seconds ahead of Blake who clocked 10.01.

Last season, injuries forced the youngster to withdraw from the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary after he pulled out of the Jamaican Championships after the heats of the 100m.

He competed sparingly, racing at the Diamond League Meeting in Monaco where he finished fifth in the men’s 100m before the Meeting International Schifflange where he only competed in the heats.

He then proceeded to the Diamond League Meeting in Xiamen, finishing second before finishing fourth at the Prefontaine Classic, the Diamond League Meeting in Eugene to round up his season.

Meanwhile, Seville has also been the talk of town after silencing Noah Lyles at the Racer’s Grand Prix in Jamaica earlier this month. The race was his first 100m of the season and he managed to clock a personal best time of 9.82 to win.

The combination of the Jamaican youngsters certainly guarantees the Caribbean country a medal when they head to Paris.
