Kipngetich Ngeno has disclosed the type of relationship he shares with reigning World 800m silver medallist Emmanuel Wanyonyi.

Former World Under20 800m silver medallist Kipngetich Ngeno and reigning World Under20 800m champion Emmanuel Wanyonyi were the two youngsters who made the cut to the national team at last year’s World Championships in Budapest, Hungary.

Unfortunately, Ngeno was knocked out in the semifinal of the race while Wanyonyi fought his way to the final and bagged a silver medal, finishing in second behind Canada’s Marco Arop.

When asked about the relationship Ngeno shares with trailblazing Wanyonyi, he noted that they only meet during Diamond League Meetings and other major events.

“At the moment, everyone is training on their own and we only get to meet maybe during Diamond League events and other major championships and plan on the way forward,” Ngeno said.

The former Africa Under20 champion also noted that there were a lot of things that learned from his bitter exit at the World Championships.

As he eyes the Olympic Games national trials, there is a lot to work on and he is sharpening his talons with the hope of making an impact this season.

Ngeno opened his season with the 800m at the Athletics Kenya third weekend meet, where he destroyed a strong to claim top honours at the Nyayo National Stadium.

“There is a lot I will implement as I eye the Olympic Games national trials. Last year was a learning moment for me and I can admit that there was a lot in store for me. I’m working on my speed and endurance,” he said.
