Kandie will be hoping to debut at the global event this year.

Former world half marathon record holder Kibiwott Kandie is hoping to make the cut to this year’s World Championships in Budapest, Hungary.

He has never competed at the global stage and he will be keen to make history this year as he bids for the highly coveted spot.

“I want to keep working hard since I am aiming to make Team Kenya for the World Championships,” Kandie told Nation Sport.

The 2020 world half marathon silver medallist opened his season at the World Cross-country Championships where he fought hard to finish fifth in the senior men’s race.

He then went for the Adizero Roads to Records in Germany where he finished second in the 10km race.

His recent feat was during the ongoing Kenya Defense Forces Championships where he defended his 10,000m crown dominantly after clocking 28:19.32.

“After competing in the 10km race in Germany, I felt my body responding well. I just want to maintain that,” the Commonwealth Games 10,000m bronze medallist said.

Meanwhile, reigning Boston Marathon champion Hellen Obiri defended her 5000m crown at the event.

Obiri has had a great start to her season and is hoping to maintain the hot streak when she seeks to return to the streets of New York to defend her title.

“I just came here to try and see if I win and I thank God for my great performance. Competing in these races is helping me build up for my next marathon. I might compete at the New York Marathon,” Obiri said.
