Cherotich, the reigning world under-20 3000m steeplechase champion was racing against a strong cast that also had world record holder Beatrice Chepkoech.

The new 3000m steeplechase Olympic champion has dedicated her gold medal to Kenya despite actually competing for Bahrain.
Yavi, the reigning world champion was going for her first Olympic title and she put in the work to beat the defending Olympic champion Chemutai. Yavi clocked an impressive 8:52.76 ahead of the Ugandan star who clocked 8:53.34. Cherotich completed the podium in a time of 8:55.15.

“I’m grateful for the experience of running alongside the defending champion and world champion. Peruth was coming to win her second medal and she was so strong. I thank God that I’ll be sharing the podium with them,” Cherotich said.
The world 3000m steeplechase bronze medallist recounted that the race was not a walk in the park, citing the tough weather conditions. She extended a hand of gratitude to God for the strength that enabled her to claim a medal.

“I went to Paris and tried my best and brought a bronze medal. The race was not easy because of the weather but I did my best,” Cherotich said.
“I thank God for my progression which has been impressive so far since I started running and my coach has also been supportive. I’m now getting ready for the Diamond League Meeting races,” she added.
