Kenyans have dominated the first three positions of the fastest times in both the men's and women's fields.

The elite fields for the 2023 Munster Marathon on Sunday 3 September have officially been announced by the race organisers.

The Kenyan trio of Justus Kiprotich, Evans Kiprono, and Martin Cheruiyot headline the strong field. Kiprotich is the fastest in the field with a Personal Best time of 2:09:28 and opened his season at the La Route du Louvre marathon where he finished 10th.

He will be returning to the streets of Germany with the hope of ending the season with a great performance. The Munster Marathon is a familiar course to him since he won the race during the 2018 edition and he will be banking on that mastery to make a mark.

On his part, Kiprono will be lining up as the second-fastest in the field. He finished second at the Oberbank Linz Donau Marathon and will be looking to extend the hot streak when he heads to Germany. He will be competing in his second marathon ever.

Cheruiyot will be competing in his third marathon this year. He opened the season with a win at the Marathon d'Annecy before finishing eighth at the Lanzhou Marathon. He heads to the race as the third fastest in the field.

The women’s field is also headlined by the Kenyan trio of Jane Jelagat Seurey, Judith Cherono, and Lilian Jelagat. Seurey has so far competed in two marathons and finished among the top five in both.

She opened her season with a fourth-place finish at the Buriram Marathon before reigning supreme at the Generali Geneve Marathon. She lines up as the fastest in the field with a Personal Best time of 2:26:29.

Cherono and Jelagat follow as the second and third fastest in the field respectively. Cherono will be lining up for her first marathon this year after her decent run last season that saw her finish fourth at the Stockholm Marathon and third at the Sanlam Cape Town Marathon.

On her part, Jelagat will be lining up for her first race this season after a good outing last season where she competed in three marathons.
