Wiseman Were is confident of leaving a mark as he gears up for a tough debut at the Paris Olympics against defending champion Karsten Warholm, Rai Benjamin, and Alison Dos Santos among other 400m Hurdles stars.

Wiseman Were has thrown down the gauntlet, noting that he is not under the pump heading to the Paris Olympic Games.

Were will be making his debut on the Olympic stage, and he has enough confidence in his training and his capabilities as he eyes a moment of breakthrough at the Paris Olympic Games.

The Kenyan hurdling sensation added that there is always some kind of pressure but he is approaching the Olympic Games in a relaxed manner.

“I’m not under pressure because you know, the pressure is always there but as we head to the Olympic Games, everything is set and I’m confident that I will produce great results,” Were said.

“This is a dream come true and I want to go there and leave a mark there. I am ready to go. We have done a lot in training and I’m feeling good,” he added.

Making the Olympic team is a blessing for Were following his struggles since he started his career back in 2014. Were admitted that he never had the right training gear and would be forced to borrow from other athletes.

Were added that paying to access the stadium was also one of the greatest things he went through, admitting that athletes still struggle with paying for the stadium to date.

“When I started life was hard and I used to come to Kasarani at around 2014 or 2105 and there was no tartan track here. Life was difficult,” Were recalled.

“I used to finish my training and go to Roysambu and rest. So, it was a tough journey and I used to borrow shoes from the athletes who had already made names for themselves. I used to borrow training gear from T-shirts to spikes and that is how I survived. I have seen a lot of challenges in my journey of growth,” he added.
