Janeth Jekosgei has donated the piece of clothing that she wore when she won the 800m world title in 2007

Former 800m world champion Janeth Jepkosgei has donated the singlet that she donned when she cruised to victory in the 800m event at the 2007 World Championships.

Jepkosgei made the historic contribution to the Museum of World Athletics as homage to the first ever world title she won.

While making the donation, the Kenyan running legend said she hopes her story inspires and promote the sport of running.

“I’m very happy to present my 2007 World Championships singlet to the Museum of World Athletics,” said Jepkosgei as per World Athletics

“When it is displayed in the online museum and exhibited around the world, I hope it helps to inspire and promote the wonderful sport of running, which, in my role as head coach for the U20 Refugee Team, I know is a powerful force for good.”

The 2007 world 800m champion has made a transition from running to coaching. Jepkosgei is enjoying her journey and led the World Athletics Refugee Team at the 2023 World Championships in Budapest.

Jepkosgei’s winning singlet will sit alongside the shoes and clothing of other world 800m champions in the Heritage Collection of Museum of World Athletics including Kenya's very own 800m running legend and world record holder David Rudisha.
