The South African forward has lauded Kenyan runners for their impressive performances at various competitions
South African forward Percy Tau has praised Kenyan runners for being so strong following their impressive performances at various competitions over the years.
Athletics remains Kenya’s most popular and successful sport and it seems the runners have marketed the country well going by the sentiments of Tau, one of South Africa’s leading footballers.
“Beautiful country, beautiful animals the big five, the island in Diani I have not been there but I would love to be there one day,” Tau said when asked about what he knows about Kenya.
He added: “A strong cultural country, the athletics, the ones that run, they are strong, really strong.”

FOOTBALL: Ex-Gor Mahia official delves into Harambee Stars match fixing speculations after South Sudan defeat
A great many fans have raised the alarm after Harambee Stars' unexpected loss to South Sudan.
The Al Ahly forward was perhaps tuned in on the 2023 World Athletics Championships where Kenya yet again topped the medal table in Africa with 10 after bagging three gold, as many silver and four bronze while South Africa ended the event empty-handed.
Despite heading to Budapest with high hopes of striking medals, Team SA had a championship to forget as world 400m record holder Wayde Van Niekerk, who has found his form this year, finished last while Akani Simbine was disqualified from the 100m semi-finals for a false start and never got to run in the 4x100m final either.
Prudence Sekgodiso and Marione Fourie, also gave South Africa hope by making the semi-finals of the 800m and the 100m hurdles respectively, but did not qualify for the finals.
Tau joined Al Ahly in 2021 from Premier League outfit Brighton and Hove Albion, linking up with his former Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimame, and after a slow start, he has become a key member of Marcel Koller’s side.
