Kenny Bednarek has admitted that watching Sha'Carri Richardson, Melissa Jefferson, and Twanisha Terry qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympics motivated him to dig deep for a podium finish in the men's 100m final.

Olympic silver medallist Kenny Bednarek has admitted that watching the trio of training mates Sha’Carri Richardson, Melissa Jefferson and Twanisha Terry qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games in the women’s 100m pumped him up for a new personal best in the men’s 100m final at the USATF Olympic trials.

Bednarek trains at the Star Athletics Club under tutelage of Dennis Mitchell who also coaches the trio. Richardson clocked a world leading time of 10.71 to win the race with Jefferson and Terry finishing second and third in respective times of 10.80 and 10.89.

The 25-year-old disclosed that watching the trio making history was motivation enough for him to dig deep for a podium place in the men’s 100m final. Bednarek finished second behind triple world champion Noah Lyles who equaled his personal best time of 9.83.

Bednarek, finishing second, clocked a personal best time of 9.87 as Olympic Games 100m silver medallist clocked 9.88 to cross the finish line. The 200m world leader added that they had worked hard in training and the task was just to come out and get the job done and he expressed excitement that they all did.

“Hell yeah…I mean I was so happy to see that and we all knew at practice that they had it in them and they just got the job done so just seeing that I was happy for coach and them and yeah that definitely pumped me up for the next day,” Bednarek said.

Bednarek has been known to dominate the 200m but this time around, he stamped authority in the 100m and disclosed that he knew his time would come.

He has been working on his technique and explained that he is now healthy and ready to make an impact at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

“Just having fun and staying healthy and like I said before, I always knew I had this in me but yeah, I’m just having more fun this year and working technically this year and that’s made a big difference in the 100m,” he said.

“I’ll finally call myself a 100m man now but I knew this was just a matter of time, of when I was going to make the team. For the past few years I’ve been dealing with stuff but this year I’m healthy and I always say a healthy me is a dangerous me. I’ve always stepped up to the table.”
