D'Amato is making her return to the Chicago Marathon after a three-year hiatus.

After a tough showing at the US Olympic marathon trials earlier this year, Keira D’Amato is making a determined comeback at this year's Chicago Marathon on Sunday, October 13.

The 39-year-old American runner, who holds the American half-marathon record, is gearing up for a potentially history-writing marathon.

Following her dismal performance in February, D’Amato has trained relentlessly with husband Anthony D'Amato, channeling the disappointment into motivation for what could be a record-breaking run.

Speaking ahead of the event, she shared her excitement and uncertainty about the outcome.

"I wouldn't be surprised if I'm in PR (Personal Record) shape, and if I PR, that is like knocking on the door of the American record. So I don't know, if it's a good day, maybe, but if it's not a good day, then probably not," expressed D'Amato via Citius Mag on the potential of setting an American record in Chicago

D'Amato, who moved from Richmond to Park City, Virginia, for altitude training feels the change could be the difference maker for her.

"It’s been one of my best builds. My mileage was higher, I’m training at altitude, volume is better. It’s been really solid, but I don’t know what that equals,” she added.

For D’Amato, this race is not just about redemption but about embracing the joy of competition as she is also competing in a challenge against her husband and training partner Anthony D'Amato.

"He's trying to break three hours and he has been working hard and having fun so looking forward to it."
