Gatlin picks his dream 4 by 100m mixed relay in two different iterations and compares it to a Jamaican dream line up that includes the likes of Asafa Powell, Usain Bolt and Elaine Thompson-Herah.

Former American sprinter Justin Gatlin has shared his dream all-time lineup for the hypothetical 4x100m mixed relay, while also speculating on how it would fare against Jamaica's predicted dream team.

This mixed relay event, though not yet introduced, follows the success of the 4x400m mixed relay, which was added by World Athletics in 2017.

On his Ready Set Go podcast with Maurice Greene, Gatlin named his dream lineup in two different iterations: man-to-woman-to-man-to-woman and woman-to-man-to-woman-to-man.

“If it is women-men, then it is going to be Tianna Bartoletta at the hole, me on the back stretch and I would pass it on to Allison (Felix) on the turn, and then on the anchor, it would be Noah (Lyles),” Gatlin started.

“If it is men-women-men-women, I probably go 2019 Christian Coleman on the hole, Sha’Carri Richardson on the homestretch, to me on the turn and Carmelita Jeter on the anchor.”

Greene then offered his thoughts on Jamaica's ideal dream lineup in similar iterations, suggesting formidable combinations that highlight the nation's sprinting prowess.

“I think this is what they would do: the one where you are on the backstretch, they would go with Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce to Asafa Powell to Elaine Thompson-Herah to Usain Bolt.

“ If it is men first, they would go Asafa, to Elaine, to Bolt, to Shericka Jackson.”

"Listen bro, that is a fire relay all criticism aside," Gatlin further joked when offering a verdict over the potential final outcome of the relay.

While this matchup remains purely hypothetical and imaginative, it certainly sparks excitement and debate among athletics fans, showcasing the talent and competitive spirit of both nations' sprinters.

Jamaica currently holds the world-record for the 4 by 100m relay set at the 2012 Olympics, when they managed to clock under 37 seconds.

America holds the record in the women’s category on 40.82, set at the same Olympic games, with all those athletes mentioned playing a key role in setting these records.
