The former world javelin champion has expressed his frustrations with a number of things during his Olympics preparations even as he targets a medal in Paris.

Former world javelin champion Julius Yego has expressed his frustrations at not having a coach as he prepares for his fourth and final Olympic Games.

The ‘YouTube’ man is already in camp in Miramas but unlike the rest of his colleagues, he is having to do it alone as he does not have a trainer or training partner.

“I am used to training alone, but it is difficult not having someone to correct me especially when you are going to a big competition like this,” a frustrated Yego said, as per the National Olympics Committee of Kenya.

“There is a French coach who is here but there is language barrier, we have a translator but it’s always good to have someone who you can speak to me directly, hopefully all will go well and I perform well in Paris.”

Yego has made it to his fourth Olympics but it was a pensive process this time as he had to wait until the very last minute, having missed the cut via various qualification events.

He sealed his Olympics ticket through the world rankings and now hopes to right those wrongs by performing well in Paris.

“It has not been easy, this was the most difficult season for me, I started well in March, but I got injured at the Kip Keino Classic, although I managed to overcome the challenge and here I am qualified for the Olympics,” he added.

Yego’s most memorable Olympics was Rio 2016 when he won silver and even though a lot has changed since then, he still hopes to be on the podium in Paris.

“With my age now if I get an Olympic medal, I will be so happy,” said the 35-year-old.

“My ultimate goal is to win gold that would see me accomplish my achievements in my career. I have achieved whatever I wanted as a javelin thrower. I want a continuation of it, I don’t want to stop it, I feel I can still do it.

“For now, I am working on my throws and speed just to get it right and the distance will automatically come. My target is the qualification to the final, therefore, I am focusing on throwing 82m and get the automatic qualification.

“I love Miramas, it has all the javelin facilities and that is the most important thing for me. The weather is also good which is similar to what we will encounter during the games.”
