Julius Yego is not giving up on his Olympic qualification journey even after his third failed attempt at the Diamond League Meeting in Doha, Qatar.

2015 World javelin champion Julius Yego has made his remarks following a disastrous outing at the Diamond League Meeting in Doha, Qatar, where he was hoping to qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Yego made his first Olympic qualification attempt at the African Games but missed out after finishing second with a throw of 81.74m. The 2016 Rio Olympics silver medallist then attempted to qualify for the event at the Kip Keino Classic but faltered and ended up finishing ninth with a throw of 72.25m.

Yego did not give up and he made his third attempt at the Diamond League Meeting in Doha, Qatar, where he unfortunately ended up finishing eighth with a throw of 78.37.

Following his unceremonious exit from the Diamond League Meeting in Doha, the 35-year-old has vowed not to give up on his dreams.

He said: “Good to be back hitting in the runway after the kip keino incident, good feeling but more work needed to work on, onto the next one. Road to Paris Olympic 2024. #OneMoreTime.”

Yego will be chasing his fourth appearance on the global stage after making his debut at the 2012 London Olympics before claiming a silver medal at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.

The javelin star was also in action at the delayed 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games but was forced to exit in the qualification stage after failing to make the cut. He has suffered a bout of injuries that have slowed him down but is not stopping until he achieves his goals.

Meanwhile, for the javelin, the qualifying time is between December 31, 2022 and June 30, 2024 and the clock is ticking for Yego.

The International Olympic Committee explained that athletes will be able to qualify in two ways for the Paris 2024 Games, with 50% of qualification places based on achieving the entry standard for an event within the qualification period, and the other 50% based on the World Athletics Ranking within the ranking period.
