Kenya’s Julius Yego had an impressive throw to seal qualification to the final at the Paris Olympics.
Julius Yego made it into the final of the men’s javelin at the Paris Olympics following an impressive throw on Tuesday.
Yego, the 2016 Olympics silver medallist, threw a season’s best 85.97m in his third attempt to qualify for the final and keep his Olympics dream alive.
He had a first attempt of 78.84m before he improved it to 80.75m in the second but sealed his place with the 85.97m in his final attempt to finish second in his qualification around with German Julian Weber winning it after a throw of 87.76m.

Paris Olympics: Faith Kipyegon joined by Susan Ejore & Nelly Chepchirchir after a slow 1500m race
Double Olympics champion Faith Kipyegon opted for a slow race as she qualified for the 1,500m semi-final with compatriots Susan Ejore and Nelly Chepchirchir also sealing a ticket.
Jakub Vadlejch of the Czech Republic was third with a throw of 85.63 with Toni Keranen of Finland sealing the final qualification spot following a throw of 85.27m, his personal best.
It is an encouraging performance for Yego who has struggled to hit 85m in the last one year and only qualified for the Olympics via the World Athletics rankings.
Yego also expressed his frustrations at not having a coach as he prepared for his fourth and final Olympic Games but his work seems to be paying off.

Timothy Cheruiyot and Brian Komen will be seeking to win a first Olympics title in 1,500m since 2008 but face a formidable challenge from Jakob Ingebrigtsen and Josh Kerr.
The 2015 world champion won his fifth African title following a dominant throw at the African Championships in Doula, Cameroon in June but did not get the Olympic qualifying standard of 85.50.
Yego had a throw of 80.22m to beat Nigerian Chinecherem Prosper Nnamdi (79.22m) and Moustafa Mahmoud of Egypt (77.25m), who finished second and third, to claim silver and bronze medal respectively.
