ATHLETICS Nelly Chepchirchir dazzles with 1500m meeting record in Hungary
Chepchirchir is keenly following in double-world record holder Faith Kipyegon’s footsteps with her impeccable performances.
The duo went into the race as favourites since Alfred was making her professional debut and Richardson was expecting to continue the hot streak. However, the win might have shocked the world but it was normal for Alfred since she knew she was well prepared and destined for a win.
“A lot of people would say it is a surprise result, but I felt the power and I knew I could do it. I could not be in any better shape one month before the World Championships,” she said as per World Athletics.
The 22-year-old secured a strong start and strode away from the rest of the field, a strategy that served her well. Alfred is yet to disclose her next destination but as for Richardson, she will be heading to the Diamond League Meeting in London, United Kingdom.
In London, Richardson will clash with two of the top-three fastest women over the 100m so far this year. She will be competing against World 200m champion Shericka Jackson and Ivory Coast’s Marie Josee Ta Lou.
