Korir dominated the event as he dominated the final stretches of the tedious Chicago road to clinch the 2024 edition, keeping Kelvin Kiptum's legacy alive
Kenya's John Korir produced a performance Kelvin Kiptum would be proud of as he dominated the 2024 Chicago Marathon, winning on 2:02:42 to make a true statement of intent.
The Kenyan clocked in almost two minutes ahead of Ethiopia’s Mohamed Esa, who timed 2:04:39 and fellow Kenyan Amos Kipruto who clocked 2:04:50.
Korir took charge in the opening minutes, tucking in right behind the pace setters with Daniel Ebenyo and Amos Kipruto comfortably behind him.
On the quarter hour mark, the faces in the leading pack shifted with Vincent Ngetich coming into the mix with Ebenyo and Korir falling back as Kipruto maintained his pace to keep his place in the thick of it.

It was a race against time for Chepngetich, who ran majority of the race in the company of pace setter having left the chasing pack behind.
Ngetich started pulling ahead from the rest nearing the hour mark, settling in comfortably behind the pace setters with Kipruto and Ebenyo comfortably behind him.
Korir was at the helm yet again as the pacers exited the race on the hour and a half mark with Ngetich yielding the lead.
Comortable in his stride, the two-time Los Angeles champion upped the tempo to leave the rest of the chasing pack, led by Kipruto struggling to keep up as he went to comfortably finish the race.

“Yes I came here thinking about him (Kelvin Kiptum) and said, If last year he ran 2:01 why not me? So I just came here inspired and did my best," said Korir after the race via NBC Chicago
