At the 2023 Bowerman Awards, Jaydon Hibbert was crowned the Male Athlete of the Year, thus becoming the first Jamaican athlete to attain such a feat.
The Bowerman is the highest accolade given to the best student-athlete in American collegiate track and field season, and the Jamaican youngster won based on his historic performances for the University of Arkansas.
His victory made him become not just the first Jamaican winner, but the first freshman male winner and the youngest Bowerman winner ever.

In 2023, Hibbert won the NCAA and SEC triple jump titles indoors and outdoors. He leaped a magnificent distance of 17.87m that closed as the world lead and broke a 41-year-old NCAA outdoor record and the world junior record that stood since 1982. While indoors, his 17.54m obliterated a 38-year-old NCAA record
His achievements made him one of the favourites to win the gold medal at the world championships in Budapest. Sadly, a hamstring injury sustained after his qualifying round ruled him out of the final.
