The Jamaican came from nowhere to claim a priceless win at the Zurich Diamond League.

Jamaica’s Shiann Salmon stunned her rivals to claim victory in the 400m hurdles at the Zurich Diamond League on Thursday.

With race appearing to be a battle between Americans Anna Cockrell and Shamier Little, Salmon came from nowhere to claim the win just before the finish line.

The two Americans had controlled the race and heading to the final hurdle it was either Cockrell or Little for the win but Salmon summoned enough energy and went past her competitors to win in a personal best time of 52.97. Cockrell clocked 53.17 for second place as Little managed 54.07 for third place.

The Commonwealth Games silver medallist Salmon finished sixth at the Paris Olympics but victory in Zurich atones for her poor performance somewhat as she looks forward to the Diamond League Final in Brussels next week.

The race did not have the big hitters with Olympics champion Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone not running in the Diamond League this season and world champion Femke Bol missing, Cockrell, who finished second in Paris was set to provide stardust but she was upset.
