Jamaican youngster has fired warning shots at his opponents including Noah Lyles and Ferdinand Omanyala as he looks forward to following in the footsteps of Usain Bolt.

Jamaican rising sprint sensation Kishane Thompson is keenly following in the footsteps of double world record holder as he looks to shut down Noah Lyles, and Ferdinand Omanyala among other decorated sprinters.

Thompson was among the top athletes in 2023, at only the age of 22, and he has promised to go for everything this season.

He completed the season as the fastest man in Jamaica with a time of 9.85, which is also ranked as the sixth-fastest time in the world, following Great Britain's Zharnel Hughes' time of 9.83.

During the National Championships, he also proved to be a superstar after sprinting to the finish line and clocking 9.91 in the heats of the 100m.

"The plan for this year is to go harder than ever, and to stay healthy, and to show you guys what I can do," Thompson said as per Jamaica Observer.

The 22-year-old added that he was grateful for the breakthrough and the experience he had in 2023. He also exuded confidence that as time goes by, the world will surely witness what he can do.

"I am pretty grateful for what happened last year — because most people would say it is my breakout year — but I am here now and little by little you guys will see what I am made of," he said.

The youngster also explained that he is not under the pump to deliver despite setting such ambitious goals. Thompson has acknowledged the inevitable trials and tribulations of an athlete's journey and has asserted the importance of holding his own this year.

"There is no pressure on me at all this year because mentally, I am stable. Yes, most certainly I can run a lot faster.

“Because seeing the little that I did and I made the most of it, I am very optimistic that I can do more now and the results are going to be greater. Injury-wise I am good. I am far better now than last season, and we are managing it,” he said.

Reflecting on the progress he has made in 2023, Thompson remains optimistic and eager for the challenges ahead. "I am very optimistic and very eager this year, and I can't wait to see what I can do,” he said.
