Linford Christie revealed his long-standing dislike for Carl Lewis due to Lewis' perceived arrogance, though Maurice Greene noted that Lewis has since changed his attitude.
Former Olympic champion Linford Christie has opened up about his longtime rivalry with nine-time Olympic champion Carl Lewis.
The Jamaican-born British former runner explained that he never liked Carl Lewis since he always had the mindset that he was better than every other athlete and he had selfish tendencies, something that irked Linford Christie.
Linford Christie added that if he had been given a managerial job at World Athletics, the sport would be doing worse than it is now. The three-time European champion explained that Carl Lewis should have learnt how to let go and realise that new champions would emerge and avoid comparing himself to every rising star.

Noah Lyles has expressed gratitude for support from legends like Usain Bolt and Carl Lewis, as he aims to revolutionize track and field by emphasizing its marketing and inspiring future athletes to persevere through challenges.
“Carl Lewis annoyed me…Carl Lewis annoyed the f**k out of me, he really did, you know. I think he is one of the greatest of all time, don’t get me wrong, but he doesn’t feel that anyone should be better than him. You know, you’ve had your thing, move on, let people go, let the next generation progress,” Linford Christie said on The Powells YouTube Channel.
“To me, I think, you know, if he was allowed to run the sport, the sport would be even worse than this. It would be stagnant,” he added.
However, Maurice Greene cut him short and explained that Carl Lewis has greatly changed his attitude despite them not being the best of friends.
“He’s not the same now though…he wouldn’t talk to me either but he has changed tremendously,” Greene intervened.
Carl Lewis is undoubtedly one of the best American athletes following his tons of accomplishments in track and field. During his time as an active athlete, the 63-year-old won nine Olympic gold medals, one Olympic silver medal, and 10 World Championships medals, including eight gold. Carl Lewis ventured into sprinting and long jumping and his career spanned from 1979 to 1996.
He is one of six athletes to win gold in the same individual event in four consecutive Olympic Games. He is also one of the two people to win gold in the same individual athletics event in four Olympic Games, along with USA discus thrower Al Oerter. Currently, he works as the head track and field coach for the University of Houston.
