Jakob Ingebrigtsen’s wife has opened up on the cost of their honeymoon in the picturesque Maldives following their wedding a year ago.

Multiple world and Olympics champion Jakob Ingebrigtsen and his wife Elisabeth Asserson spent over $16,500 (Ksh2.1 million) on his honeymoon in the Maldives following his wedding in September 2023.

Ingebrigtsen married Asserson in an American-style wedding with five groomsmen and bridesmaids each in a ceremony held at the Bragernes Church in Drammen, Norway where an estimated 120 guests witnessed their union.

The following day, the couple headed to the Maldives for their honeymoon where they enjoyed what the island had to offer. One year since the trip, Elisabeth has now revealed how much they shelled out on their honeymoon.

"For a return flight, Water Villa with VIP all inclusive, which was the package we chose, we paid NOK 182,000 ($16,591.91). If you choose to go for half-board, and other types of villas, you can get the price down quite a bit," she wrote on Snapchat in response to a fan as per Norwegian outlet Dagbladet.

Chalk white beaches, blue seas and exclusive overwater bungalows are synonymous with the Maldives for many, and the newlyweds did nothing but enjoy their surroundings when they were there.

The young couple have been going strong since and welcomed their first child in June this year, a son called Filippa.

The baby arrived less than a month before the Paris Olympics where Ingebrigtsen failed to defend his 1,500m title but won the 5,000m gold.

He enjoyed a good 2024 season that saw him also break the 3,000m world record as well as claiming the Diamond League trophy.

He is among six athletes nominated for the World Athlete of the Year award whose gala will take place in Monaco later in the year.
