The two-time European Cross-country champion is set to miss this year's European Cross-country Championships after an injury setback.

Norwegian track star Jakob Ingebrigtsen will miss out on this year’s European Cross-Country Championships scheduled for Sunday, December 11 in Brussels due to injury.

This will be the first time since 2015 that the two-time World 5000m champion will miss the European Cross-Country Championships.

In a post on X (Twitter), Citius Mag said: “Norway’s TV 2 reports two-time European cross-country champion Jakob Ingebrigtsen will miss this year’s European Cross-Country Championships due to injury.

"He won the 2021 and 2022 senior championships and also claimed the 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019 U-20 European cross-country titles.

"His older brother, Henrik, has been named to the team, which also includes Even Brøndbo Dahl, Jacob Boutera, and Magnus Tuv Myhre.”

Missing out on the championship will come as a huge blow to team Norway since Ingebrigtsen is one of the most decorated athletes in the world and he would most certainly deliver a medal.

The 23-year-old enjoyed a great 2023 season where he successfully defended his 5000m title at the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary. He also finished second in the 1500m.

At the Diamond League Meeting final, Prefontaine Classic, he dominated the 3000m race. He was initially expected to also compete in the 1500m but withdrew.

Ingebrigtsen also wedded his long-time girlfriend Elisabeth Asserson, 22 in a glamorous ceremony back in September.
