Norway’s Jakob Ingebrigsten narrowly edged out Kenya’s Timothy Cheruiyot and reigning Olympic Champion Cole Hocker in a tightly contested 1500m encounter at the Brusells Diamond League classic on Friday night.
Ingebrigtsen, who recently won the men's 5000m in Paris but finished a disappointing fourth in the 1500m, made sure to make amends in Brussels. Leading into the final lap, the Norwegian unleashed a powerful kick with 200 metres to go, distancing himself from his closest rivals. He held his lead to cross the line in 3:30.37.
Kenya’s Timothy Cheruiyot, the 2019 world champion, put up a strong fight but had to settle for second place, clocking in at 3:30.93. Close behind was American Cole Hocker, the reigning Olympic gold medallist, who took third in 3:30.94.

Speaking after the race, Ingebrigtsen expressed his joy at securing yet another Diamond League title. "This is my fourth trophy, or only my fourth trophy, I hope to win many more," the Norwegian said with a smile.
Reflecting on his performance, Ingebrigtsen added, “My race went really good, the goal was obviously to finish first, and I did that. For the whole season, I had some good races and some bad races, so I hope to perform better next year.”
With the season now behind him, Ingebrigtsen plans to take some well-deserved time off. “I still have some improvements to do and will just keep working hard. And for now, off-season starts, and I'm going to spend some time with my family,” he concluded.
