World 5000m silver medallist Jacob Krop hopes to go one step better when he heads to the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary from August 19 to 27.
The 22-year-old revealed that he learned from the mistakes he committed during last year’s edition of the event in Eugene, Oregon and he will be seeking to rectify that as he hopes to bring back Kenya’s glory.

The Monaco meet will be her last Diamond League Meeting before she heads to the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary.
The last time Kenya ever won a gold medal at the global showpiece was in the 2005 edition in Helsinki courtesy of Benjamin Limo. Since then, no Kenyan has ever won a gold medal at the event and they rarely finish in the podium bracket.
“I learned a lot and since then, there are many things I have been learning. There are certain things I’m working on rectifying so that I can bring that gold medal,” Krop said.
He made the Team Kenya cut for the World Championships after he destroyed a strong field to win the 5000m during the National Trials. He will enjoy the company of Nicholas Kimeli, Daniel Simiu, and Cornelius Kemboi.
Krop opened his outdoor track season with an eighth-place finish at the Diamond League Meeting in Florence, Italy before competing at the National Trials.

He noted that it was his strategy to compete in a few races, unlike last year when he competed in a number of races and was a bit fatigued ahead of last year’s World Championships.
“I haven’t run many races this year because I wanted to have a great build-up heading into the World Championships…last year I competed in many races before the World Championships and I wasn’t fully fit heading into the event,” he said.
