Kiplimo won gold at the 2023 World Cross-Country in Australia on February 18th.
Ugandan athlete Jacob Kiplimo has been voted as the sports personality for the month of February by the Uganda Sports Press Association (USPA).
USPA is a body that brings together sports journalists in Uganda.
The assembly, which sat Monday morning at the Imperial Royale Hotel, agreed in unison that Kiplimo was the best of the rest in the month.
Kiplimo won gold at the 2023 World Cross-Country in Australia on February 18th.
He clocked 29 minutes and 17 seconds to beat Ethiopia’s Berihu Aregawi by nine seconds.
Fellow Ugandan Joshua Cheptegei won bronze in the same race.
Cheptegei had won gold in the same race four years ago in Aarhus, Denmark when Kiplimo took silver.
The USPA monthly assembly recognises top performers of every month.
The association has also introduced new products to be voted on every month.
There will be an award for promising talent and supportive/assist award.
The first ever winners of these were also discovered in the same sitting.
Nicholas Natuhereza was voted by the assembly for the supportive/assist award.
The Gazelles and UCU Lady Canons coach also doubles as the Fuba technical director and was applauded for raising talent through the UCU basketball program.
He got 185 points and beat off competition from Uganda Badminton Association CEO Simon Mugabi (180), Zaitun Namaganda (140) and Rogers Nkuggwa (90).
Badminton ace Eric Ofoyuru (180) took home the promising talent award ahead of Asubo Gafford’s Kamiat Naigaga (155), KCCA Soccer Academy’s Amos Aikobua (115) and Uganda Hippos gem Rogers Mugisha (165).
