The Olympic 10,000m bronze medallist is just fresh from setting a world best in the 15km road race in Nijmegen, Netherlands and he has all it takes to continue the fine form.
In the Dutch country, he clocked a mind blowing 40:42, shattering his compatriot Joshua Cheptegei’s world record. However, he has his work cut out with the presence of Ethiopian Berihu Aregawi, who will be out to defend his title.
Aregawi claimed top honours at last year's Nationale-Nederlanden San Silvestre Vallecana in 27:16, far from Jacob Kiplimo's record but when New Year’s Eve comes, it will be all about who will have better legs.
He has a well decorated resume just like his rival as he has a silver from the Paris Olympic Games and has finished in the podium bracket at the World Cross Country Championships twice. Aregawi returns to Vallecas with major objectives on his resume including to defend his title, break Kiplimo’s Vallecana course record and challenge the world best that was set in Madrid by Weldon Lagat.
