ATHLETICS Daniel Simiu opens up on his remarkable sportsmanship act of letting Sawe win Half Marathon
Daniel Simiu has shared the reason why he let Sabastian Sawe win the Half Marathon at the World Road Running Championships.
Speaking to BBC, Ta Lou admitted to still being pained by the fact that she missed out on a place in the medal bracket at the event. She disclosed that she was in good shape and was sure she would win a medal in the Hungarian Capital.
Before the World Championships, she had been unbeaten in the 100m in the Diamond League Meetings and had only lost one race, where she finished fifth at the Mt. SAC Relays.
“It really hurts and I still can't say I am over it. I wanted to get a medal but finished fourth. I have been in a situation where I have been crying alone in my room.
The support I received from fans across the world and my fellow competitors has been my saving grace,” she said.
She added that her friendship with Jamaican track star Shelly-Anne Fraser-Pryce is what keeps her going. She termed Fraser-Pryce as her sister who has always provided a shoulder for her to lean on.
"My sister, Shelly, won't let me give up on running. She is constantly reminding me that she is older than me and she is still going strong.
