Lachlan Kennedy stunned Gout Gout in the 200m at the Maurie Plant Meet and warned him that this is just the beginning.

Lachlan Kennedy has become the talk of the town after silencing Australian teen sprint sensation Gout Gout in the men’s 200m at the Maurie Plant Meet in Melbourne, Australia.

Gout Gout was undeniably the favourite to win the race owing to his impressive form this season and being the world leader over the distance but the 21-year-old outsmarted him to take the win.

Gout Gout had previously broken Peter Norman’s 200m record that was set at the 1968 Mexico Olympic Games and was out to continue silencing his opponents as he awaits the long season.

Despite having a personal best time of 21.19 seconds, far from reaching Gout Gout’s milestones, he was determined to win. Lachlan Kennedy clocked an impressive 20.26 seconds with Gout Gout coming in second in a time of 20.30 seconds.

And he is not stopping there, Lachlan Kennedy has warned that it was just the beginning of something great and Gout Gout should be worried.

Reminiscing about his experience indoors, he explained that he never thought the 200m was his stronghold but now he is sure about what he can deliver.

“Yeah indoors was a heap of fun I knew I’d always be good at 60m but 200m is definitely a different beast so I was just happy to come out here and get the job done. I feel like I’ve got more to give as well,” he revealed.

He added that the crowd gave him a once-in-a-lifetime experience and that was a huge morale booster beat Gout Gout.

Lachlan Kennedy noted that Gout Gout had been giving him a headache for a while now but finally, how hard work and commitment have paid off well.

“The crowd here is insane, I’ve never run in Australia in front of a crowd like this before, they really fuel me to keep going and hold G-man off and yeah I mean, what a race, my goal was just to go out hard and I was trying my to hold him off and I got lucky this time,” he said.

He also opened up about his winning mentality, revealing that every race always lays a foundation for him to be better.

“At the end of the bad I race against the clock not me against the people so I think that really helps lock and get me in the head space, I just run for me not to beat other people,” he said.

The rivalry between Gout Gout and Lachlan Kennedy has now unfolded and going forward, it will be all about who has better legs. The defeat is also a wake-up call to the 17-year-old who had already started making waves in the world.
