Jenny Meadows has highlighted her husband Trevor Painter’s qualities that helped him coach Keely Hodgkinson to Olympic gold in Paris.

Jenny Meadows has explained one of the qualities about her husband Trevor Painter that makes him a good coach and enabled him to propel Keely Hodgkinson to an Olympic gold medal at the Paris Olympic Games.

As quoted by the Times, Jenny Meadows pointed out that Trevor Painter is very selfless and always willing to help and come through for his athletes. She revealed that he is a man of few words and does not like being involved in dramatic experiences.

She added that Painter might have been an unsuccessful athlete during his days but is certainly one of the best coaches who possesses great skills that managed to guide Keely Hodgkinson to an Olympic gold medal.

“My biggest annoyance with Trevor is his complete lack of ego. He’s ridiculously humble. Someone might be saying they’ve been watching the Olympics and expressing an opinion about one of his athletes, and he won’t say anything,” Jenny Meadows said.

“He’s a people person who also enjoys the social side of everything. It’s possibly why he didn’t get to the top as an athlete. To do that you’ve got to be quite selfish. Trevor is very selfless, but it’s what makes him a good coach.”

At the Paris Olympic Games, Hodgkinson was impressive as she claimed the win in a time of 1:56.72. Tsige Duguma and Mary Moraa finished second and third respectively.

The Briton enjoyed an unbeaten 2024 season in the 800m, starting with the Prefontaine Classic where she pipped reigning world champion Mary Moraa to carry the day. She crossed the finish line in an impressive 1:55.78.

Hodgkinson then defended her title at the European Athletics Championships, winning the 800m dominantly in a time of 1:58.65. She went on to claim top honours in the women’s 800m at the FBK Games in Hengelo before winning the race at the Diamond League Meeting in London.

Keely Hodgkinson was forced to end her season after the Olympic Games due to a slight injury but she will surely be out to maintain the winning streak next season.
