In a recent interview, the Norwegian admitted that he still feels hurt following the loss but is planning revenge over the American this season.

If there was one thing Karsten Warholm was sure about as he started his 2024 season, it was that he would defend his Olympic title that he won at the delayed 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.

However, things did not go as planned and such is life, but not for the Norwegian star who is still haunted by the loss. Warholm revealed that he was in the form of his life in the build up to the Olympic Games and not showing up when it mattered bruised his ego.

In the Olympic 400m hurdles final, Warholm lost to Rai Benjamin and was forced to take a silver medal with Alison Dos Santos coming in third.

Second for someone else, at the Olympic final, would have been the best performance but it was not for Warholm since he had all the confidence and for some he believes he had all it took to win.

After the Olympics, Warholm won the Diamond League Meeting in Silesia and later proceeded to finish second in the 100m race against Mondo Duplantis in Zurich, rounding up his season.

“The way it looked in May 2024 ... No one will believe it when I say it, but I was actually in very good shape and maintained an extremely high level, but I couldn't bring it out when it really mattered,” Karsten Warholm said in an interview with VG.

“It's still depressing to think about, actually. We have a jacuzzi session every Sunday, and then we sometimes get depressed about it. But then we change the subject quickly.”

He now eyes the 2025 World Championships in Tokyo, Japan where he hopes to execute the race just like he did at the delayed Olympic Games in Tokyo.

Warholm stated outright that he will be going for the gold medal, eyeing his title defense and fourth win after making his debut with a win at the 2017 World Championships in London. He then claimed top honours at the 2019 edition of the event before flopping in 2022.

He bounced back in 2023, taking the win in style as Rai Benjamin rounded up the podium. However, after his Olympic win, the American will be looking to stop Warholm.

“As it stands now, I think we can quickly recover to a similar level as in May very quickly. The goal for 2025 must be to win World Championship gold,” he added.

Warholm has been a victim of injuries in the recent past but has reassured fans that going into 2025, everything is on course and he will be out to make an impression.
