Masai Russell has explained how she stays grounded in her relationship with Rob Springfield despite receiving numerous advances, valuing his support and happiness over external attention.

Reigning Olympic 100m hurdles champion Masai Russell has explained how she manages to stay rooted in her relationship amid advances from a lot of suitors across the globe.

Russell is undoubtedly among the most beautiful track and field stars and she admitted that her Instagram account has a lot of men compared to women. In an interview on the Ready Set Go podcast, Masai Russell revealed that she receives a lot of messages from her fans, including some accomplished sportspeople.

However, she pointed out that her boyfriend, Rob Springfield makes her happy and she is content with him.

“It’s not new for me…I mean like really, the most humble way, the following didn’t just come when I became a professional or when I got to the Olympics. My following has been a work in progress and I mean, I’ve always had more male followers, like my pie chart of women vs men, the men are always higher but you know, I would never talk to someone who is DMing me as a fan,” Masai Russell said.

The 24-year-old added that her boyfriend also plays an integral role in ensuring she keeps believing in her abilities when she expereinces setbacks.

She, however, did not downplay the fact that the women’s 100m hurdles is very competitive with the presence of Jasmine Camacho-Quin, Ackera Nugent, Danielle Williams and Cyrena Samba-Mayela among others.

“This is my boyfriend kind of speaking for me because we live together but I’m going to put it out there, he sees what I can do and I believe in myself and I feel like I can dominate the women’s 100m hurdles and I feel like I can double it and continue,” she said.

“It just shows how our event is competitive because we have different women every single year but it always seems impossible until it’s done. I just feel like I have what it takes, mentally and physically and there’s just so much more that can be fixed, which is the scary part for me, and I’m only 24 years old.”
