'I'm definitely out of shape' - Olympic champion Noah Lyles battles tough start in return to training after long off-season
Olympic champion Noah Lyles will be looking to build on his Paris Olympics success in 2025 even as he struggles to back to peak conditions.
"It's like a mental battle. As soon as I open up my stride, automatically I'm going to run faster, and I'm trying not to. I know I can hit those paces consistently, but I'm just trying to work within the system right now. It's not the time to try to be a practice hero. These workouts take some time to get used to, especially the stop-and-go sprinting," he said.
For the double-Olympic silver medalist, the transition back to structured training routines requires patience, particularly with adapting his body to shorter, segmented drills.
"I’m used to just running 100m, turn around, 10 seconds, and go again. My body takes time to adapt at the beginning of the season," he explained.
Despite the initial challenges, Bednarek is optimistic about his physical condition heading into 2025.
"Physically, I feel pretty good, way better than I have in previous years. Lungs, everything, my head feels fine. The only thing I feel is my glutes getting attacked, which is good because it means I’m using them properly."
