'It’s going to be loud and fun'- Jamaican star eagerly waiting for inaugural Grand Slam Track league

The Jamaican hurdler has explained the significance of having Michael Johnson's Grand Slam Track League debut in Kingston, promising organisers that they will not regret the decision.

Coming up with the Grand Slam Track league might just be one of the best decisions American sprint legend Michael Johnson made.

Kingston will join Los Angeles and Miami as a host city of the Slam for the upcoming season, with more locations set to be announced.

Speaking to Citius Mag, Jamaican hurdler Rushell Clayton explained that the fans in Jamaica always bring out a fresh vibe and are not discriminatory when it comes to cheering on the athletes.

Rushell Clayton says fans are also engaging and one could never be bored attending Jamaican athletics meets and the Grand Slam Track league will not be an exception.

“Loud noises in the stands…there are these horns that they use and it’s just loud, you can hear it from miles away and the crowd is so loud and engaging. They’ll be cheering for everyone so nobody will feel left out,” Rushell Clayton said.

“Imagine you standing on the track as a foreigner and an entire country is cheering for you, not really knowing who you are but they are just excited because track is so much fun and everyone’s is included and it’s just fun and exciting. It’s going to be loud and fun,” she added.

Michael Johnson also expressed his excitement to host the event in Jamaica, noting that it is a bold step into the right direction. He mentioned the rich history of the sport from Jamaica and pointed out the tons of talents in the counttry.

Some of the legendary athletes’ hail from Jamaica, including double world record holder Usain Bolt, the fastest man alive. Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, Shericka Jackson and Elaine Thompson-Herah are some of the female sprinters making headlines with Kishane Thompson, Oblique Seville and Ackeem Blake leading on the men’s side.

“We are thrilled to be bringing Grand Slam Track to Kingston. Jamaica has such a strong history in this sport. The talent and the love for the sport here make it a perfect fit for what we’re building. It’s going to be an incredible event, and we’re proud to have Kingston as one of our four Slams in our inaugural season to kick this whole thing off,” Michael Johnson said.

The Kingston Slam will be held at the National Stadium at Independence Park on April 4, 5, and 6, 2025, where the fastest Racers in the world will come together for this historic event.

Some of the racers already announced for the event include Ackera Nugent, Roshawn Clarke, Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, Melissa Jefferson, Masai Russell, Quincy Hall, Fred Kerley, Kenny Bednarek, Cole Hocker, Yared Nuguse, Grant Fisher, Josh Kerr, Matthew Hudson-Smith, , Nikki Hiltz, and Cyrena Samba-Mayela, Jasmine Camacho-Quinn.

Alison Dos Santos, Ronald Kwemoi, Muzala Samukonga, Clement Ducos, Marileidy Paulino, Jess Hull, Daniel Roberts, Shamier Little, Marco Arop, Devon Allen, Jasmine Jones, Jereem Richards, Luis Grijalva, Rushell Clayton, Agnes Ngetich, and Tsigie Gebreselama have also been included.
