The last time the duo clashed was during the 2022 World Championships in Eugene, Oregon, where Chebet finished second as Hassan fizzled out to finish sixth.

Commonwealth Games champion Beatrice Chebet and double Olympic champion Sifan Hassan are set to clash when the Diamond League Meeting heads to London on Sunday, July 23.

The last time the duo clashed was during the 2022 World Championships in Eugene, Oregon, where Chebet finished second as Hassan fizzled out to finish sixth. However, things might just be different this time around when the two meet.

Chebet has had a stellar season so far and she will be hoping to maintain the hot streak in London. She opened her track season with a win at the Kip Keino Classic in May before reigning supreme in a series of 1500m races.

She then proceeded to the Diamond League Meeting in Oslo, Norway where she reigned supreme in the 3000m race before obliterating a strong field in Stockholm to win the women’s 5000m race. She goes into the race in the form of her life.

Meanwhile, Hassan has also had a stellar season and remains undefeated across four distances this year, having won over 5000m in Portland last month, and prior to that winning both the 10,000m and 1500m on successive days at the FBK Games in early June.

Not forgetting, of course, that her previous appearance in London was a triumphant one, as she won the London Marathon in April on her debut at the distance, clocking 2:18:33.

World champion Gudaf Tsegay who is also unbeaten this year will also be in the mix. The Ethiopian enjoyed a stunning indoor campaign, clocking world-leading times at 1500m, 3000m, and the mile.

She has raced twice outdoors so far, winning the 1500m at the Diamond League Meeting in Rabat, Morocco in 3:54.03 and the 10,000m at Ethiopia’s World Trials in a Personal Best time of 29:29.73.
