Grant Holloway beat a final list of nominees boasting of Olympic champions Noah Lyles, Rai Benjamin and Cole Hocker among others.

American sprint legend Justin Gatlin has hailed hurdling sensation Grant Holloway after he was named the USATF Men’s Athlete of the Year.

Holloway’s accolade comes after a phenomenal season in which he shattered records and dominated the global stage.

The hurdles sprinter was crowned alongside Gabby Thomas, who claimed the honor in the women’s category.

He edged out a stellar lineup of contenders, including Olympic champions Noah Lyles, Rai Benjamin, Cole Hocker, and Quincy Hall among others.

Gatlin, speaking on his Ready Set Go podcast, shared insights from his interactions with legendary athletes in hurdling, all of whom unanimously hailed Holloway as the best in the sport.

“I’ve encountered three legends in that event. Three bonafide legends, and they all told me the same thing. I asked, ‘Who’s the best hurdler you’ve ever seen in your event?’ and they all said Grant Holloway,” Gatlin revealed.

“Not that I was shocked, but the fact it was unanimous speaks volumes. It was just Grant Holloway.”

Holloway’s 2024 season was nothing short of extraordinary. He claimed gold in the 110-meter hurdles at the Paris Olympic Games with a blistering 12.99 seconds.

Earlier in the year, he broke his own world record in the 60-meter hurdles, clocking an astonishing 7.27 seconds, and clinched another gold at the World Athletics Indoor Championships.

Additionally, he made history by becoming the first man to run under 13 seconds in the 110-meter hurdles an unprecedented 12 times.

Holloway’s dominance and consistency have cemented his status as one of the greatest hurdlers of all time, a sentiment echoed by Gatlin and the wider track and field community. His record-breaking achievements and accolades make his USATF Men’s Athlete of the Year title richly deserved.
