Reflecting on his formative years and the challenges he faced as he rose to global stardom, Bolt offered some heartfelt guidance to Gout, who is already drawing comparisons to the iconic Jamaican.
“When I started out, I didn’t understand the concept of ‘being great’ because I was young,” the Jamaican superstar recalled.
“I was 15 when I won the world juniors; I was really young and I was really talented, so I didn’t have to work as hard as it was just talent, as I was winning and winning.”

'It’s hurting our sport'- Fred Kerley explains why prodigies like Quincy Wilson should not race against senior athletes
Fred Kerley believes young athletes should stay in junior categories to develop mentally and physically without the intimidation and pressures of senior competition, which he says can harm their careers and benefit coaches more than the athletes themselves.
For Bolt, early victories came relatively easily due to his natural talent, but his real growth began when he faced tougher competition on the professional stage.
The Jamaican sprint legend described the moment when, despite his impressive abilities, he encountered losses at meets—a pivotal experience that taught him the importance of consistent hard work and resilience.
“I remember when I got to the professional level, and I felt like it was just going to be easy,” Bolt continued.
“And I got to the stage where I would go to meets and I would lose. And I was like, ‘This is strange, this is new’. So it took me a while to understand.”

Bolt’s words of wisdom resonate deeply with Gout, who has quickly risen to fame and is now in the spotlight after breaking one of Bolt’s earliest records.
Gout, however, remains humble in the face of the comparisons to Bolt.
“It’s pretty cool because Usain Bolt is arguably the greatest athlete of all time, and just being compared to him is a great feeling,” Gout said in an interview in August.
“Obviously, I’m Gout Gout, so I’m trying to make a name for myself. If I can get to the level he was, that would be a great achievement.”
Gout has already achieved impressive times in both the 100m and 200m events, with personal bests of 10.29 seconds in the 100 meters and the record-breaking 20.60 seconds in the 200 meters.
