Gabby Thomas revealed the one thing that she does, though embarrassing, that helps manage her heart rate.

Gabby Thomas has opened up about one of the most cringe things she gets to do before starting a race, just like she did at the Paris Olympic Games.

She admitted that doing burpees, a full-body exercise that combines multiple exercises into one, including squats, push-ups, and jumps, is one of the most embarrassing things she has had to go to get in shape for a race but it works for her.

The triple Olympic champion admitted it helps in managing her heart rate and that way, she is able to run efficiently. This worked out perfectly for her, Gabby Thomas went on to win the Olympic title in the 200m, beating a strong field that comprised Olympic 100m champion Julien Alfred.

Throughout the race, Gabby Thomas was unaware that she was leading and it was until she crossed the finish line that she knew the title was hers. Julien Alfred and Brittany Brown came in second and third respectively.

“I need to keep my heart rate up. It is really embarrassing, but clearly works,” the world 200m silver medallist said.

“It’s the most bizarre feeling when you get into a flow and you get into that kind of energy where nothing matters but the finish line. I wasn't thinking about anything.

“I did not expect to feel how I felt when I crossed that line. You prepare for this moment, and you train so hard for this moment, when it actually comes, it's indescribable, and I couldn't believe it.

“I mean, I never would have imagined in my wildest dreams that I would become an Olympic gold medalist. And I am one, and I'm still kind of wrapping my head around that.”

Gabby Thomas’ coach Tonja Buford-Bailey further noted that she was aware the American sprint queen would win the race after she passed the 80m mark.

The veteran tactician lauded Thomas for always taking things easy on herself and having fun when need be and also train seriously when she is required to.
