She has solidified her reputation as a force to reckon with but is not resting on her laurels

Paris Olympics double champion Beatrice Chebet has hinted at remaining grounded in order to continue her dominance on the track.

Chebet, the women’s 10,000m world record holder, wants to maintain her position as the world’s best athlete after bagging the 10,000m and 5000m gold medals in Paris.

The 24-year-old Londiani-born National Police Service officer said her desire to succeed is guided by discipline and determination, maintaining that her journey to the top has not been a walk in the park. "It has not been easy but it’s all about discipline and hard work. Determination to succeed has always driven me to new heights,” she told The Star.

Chebet has solidified her reputation as a force to reckon with and still feels fired up to win more titles before hanging up her spikes. "As they say, getting to the top is much easier than staying there. However, I am prepared to work even harder and take all necessary steps to continue being the best over the distances.”

Victory in Paris made Chebet become only the third woman in history to win both events at the same Olympic games. In 2022, Chebet won gold medals in the 5000 m at the Commonwealth Games, African Championships, and Diamond League, and a silver medal in the 5000m at the World Championships.

Chebet also won gold medals at the 2023 and 2024 World Cross Country Championships.  In 2018, Tampere, Finland, she became the first Kenyan woman and the first non-Ethiopian since 2006 to win the 5000m title at the World U20 Championships in Athletics.
