The women’s race was a tough battle between the Kenyans and Ethiopians but it was the Kenyan charge that reigned supreme.
Hawi Feysa, who was primed for glory in the race, faded to finish fourth in a time of 1:07:18. Feysa had been in the leading pack from the gun but started fading slowly with a few kilometers to the finish line and ended up finishing fourth.
Other Kenyans in the race included Viola Cheptoo, Gladys Chepkurui, and Susan Chembai who finished fifth, seventh, and 10th respectively.
In the men’s race, Cheserek outclassed Kenya’s Bernard Koech a few meters to the finish line and clocked 59:11 to win the race. Koech, who is preparing for the Amsterdam Marathon, was forced to finish in second place in 59:13.
Ethiopia’s Gemechu Dida sealed the podium after clocking 59:31. Other Kenyan men in the race included Patrick Mosin, Bravin Kiprop, Isaac Kipkemboi, and Solomon Kirwa.
Mosin finished fourth in 59:35 as Kiprop and Kipkemboi followed closely to finish in fifth and sixth places respectively. Kirwa finished eighth in the hotly contested race.
