Peres Jepchirchir is keenly following in Eliud Kipchoge's footsteps as she looks to defend her marathon title at next year's Olympic Games.

The 2022 Boston Marathon champion Peres Jepchirchir is keenly following in the footsteps of former world marathon record holder Eliud Kipchoge as she seeks to defend her Olympic title next year.

The 30-year-old disclosed that going into next season, it is her hope to defend her title and by God’s grace, she believes that everything is possible.

The 2021 New York City Marathon champion stunned the whole world during the delayed 2020 Tokyo Olympics by taking gold in 2:27:20 in the women’s marathon.

She is heading to the New York City Marathon in November with the hope of reclaiming her title and from then, she will commence her preparations towards the Olympic Games.

“I’m going to prepare for New York next month then after that God knows what will happen next year. I know we have the Olympic Games and my hope is to defend my title.

"I know it’s not easy but by God’s grace, I believe it’s possible,” Jepchirchir said.

On his part, Kipchoge, the five-time Berlin Marathon champion will be going to next year’s Olympic Games with the hope of bagging his third title.

If he wins the title, he will become the first man to have won three Olympic gold medals in the marathon.

The four-time London Marathon champion is sure of his chances of bagging the Olympic title one more time despite the rise of youngsters in the long-distance races who will be looking to give him a run for his money.

He won his first title during the 2016 Rio Olympic Games and successfully defended his title during the delayed 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
