Following her dominant Olympic exploits, Julien Alfred was given a heroic welcome to her home country, Saint Lucia, as they began their four-day celebrations in honour of the Olympic champion and silver medallist.

Julien Alfred travelled back to her home country Saint Lucia and was treated to a heroic welcome following her dominant exploits at the Paris Olympic Games.

This was the first time in several months that Julien Alfred was returning home after spending most of her season in Texas and travelling worldwide for competitions. Upon returning to her home country, her fans showed up in large numbers to welcome the 23-year-old.

A group of dancers were also in the midst as she got into the blue sports car and started the motorcade with fans high-fiving her, requesting selfies, and some asking for autographs. On top of the heroic welcome, Alfred was honoured with a calypso song with September 27 declared the Julien Alfred Day.

“I’m truly lost for words. So many people have guided me along the way and helped me to get to this point. It didn’t come easy. It was truly a rocky road. Many days I just wanted to give up,” Alfred said in part as quoted by Leader Telegram.

Her sacrifice and hard work did not go unnoticed as for the first time, she claimed Saint Lucia an Olympic gold medal in the women’s 100m. At the event, the 23-year-old clocked a national record time of 10.72 seconds ahead of the favourite to win, Sha’Carri Richardson who finished second as Melissa Jefferson completed the podium.

If that was not enough already, Julien Alfred went on to claim the 200m silver medal behind Gabby Thomas. She did not end her season after the Olympic Games as she proceeded to the Diamond League Meeting in Zurich where she finished second behind Richardson.

However, she bounced back to winning ways at the Diamond League Meeting final in Brussels, capping her season with a dominant win over training mate Dina Asher-Smith who was forced to settle for second. Africa’s fastest woman Marie-Josee Ta Lou-Smith completed the podium.
