Olympic champion Gabby Thomas' recent attempt to run long distance did not go as planned.

Olympic champion Gabby Thomas, renowned for her blistering speed in sprints, recently stepped out of her comfort zone to tackle a mile run. The result was humbling experience that has her fans buzzing.

Thomas, who has previously expressed interest in testing her limits with longer distances, took to her X account to share the ordeal.

In a candid and humorous post, she admitted, "My toxic trait is believing I could run a sub 5 mile."

Acknowledging her struggle, she followed up with another tweet that emphasized her unsuccessful go at longer distances.

"I know there’s a video circulating of me running a mile time trial…I may have went out too fast that first lap, but I’m a sprinter, it’s all I know!"

The attempt at a mile run isn’t the first time Thomas has hinted at venturing into endurance events.

During her time as a Marshall at the New York Marathon, where she teamed up with US rugby star Ilona Maher, Thomas asked fans whether she should attempt a marathon herself.

The overwhelming support led her to consider the possibility, even giving a tentative timeline for when she might take on the challenge.

However, the mile trial highlighted the stark difference between sprinting and distance running. Thomas, who dominated the Paris Olympics with three gold medals in the 200m, 4x100m, and 4x400m, showed that her expertise lies in explosive speed rather than endurance.

While the mile proved to be a tough nut to crack, fans of the charismatic sprinter can look forward to an action packed 2025 season where Thomas is already poised for showdown in Michael Johnson's Grand Slam Track League.
