Agnes Jebet Ngetich made a stunning half marathon debut in Valencia, clocking 1:03:04—the second-fastest time ever—while expressing pride in her milestone achievement and hopes of setting future records.

Agnes Jebet Ngetich made her half marathon debut at the Valencia Half Marathon and she stunned the world to run the second fastest time over the distance.

She threatened the world record time of 1:02:52 that was set by Ethiopia’s Letesenbet Gidey on the same course in 2021. Agnes Ngetich crossed the finish line in a stunning 1:03:04 ahead of Ethiopia’s Fotyen Tesfay who clocked a stunning 1:03:21. Lilian Kasait, the World Cross country silver medallist, sealed the podium in a time of 1:03:32.

Following her impressive run in Valencia, Agnes Ngetich expressed pride to have achieved such a huge milestone in her debut and noted that it is always a pleasure competing there. She also expressed confidence about getting another record in the streets of Valencia.

This comes after she shattered the 10km world record earlier this year, clocking a mind-blowing 28:46 to win the race. With her time, she became the first woman to ever clock under 29 minutes in a 10km race.

“I’m really happy, and so proud I could reach the second fastest ever in my debut. Valencia will always stay in my memories. I always remember my record in the 10K. I want to think in Valencia and hope to come again,” Agnes Ngetich said in an interview.

“Running too fast in the first 10K wasn’t an error, it was done consciously to try to win in Valencia. It’s a great achievement for me. I did good time, and beat the result despite it was raining. Someday I’ll try to get a new record, hopefully in Valencia,” she added.

This season, she has enjoyed a series of wins including claiming top honours at the Kenyan Cross-Country Championships and also winning the 10km race at the Adizero Road to Records. She also finished fifth at the World Cross country Championships in Belgrade, Serbia.

Agnes Ngetich missed the Kenyan Olympic trials, both in the 5000m and 10,000m but that did not derail her from preparing her half marathon debut where she was impressive.
