Sifan Hassan is set to once again grace several marathon courses this year and is devoted to run until her last breath.

Olympic marathon champion Sifan Hassan's love for the marathon is unmatched.

The 31-year-old 2023 London marathon champion has said she wants to leave a legacy in the specialty and has unfinished business. Unlike athletes who hang up their spikes once they feel the time is ripe, Hassan will take to the course until her last breath.

“I’ll still get nervous, but I’m not finished yet, I think I’ll do marathons until I die. I’m not going to stop. It’s a lot of fun,” the Dutch star told The Independent.

Sifan, double 5000m and 10000m bronze medalist at the Paris Olympics, has only run four marathons in her trophy-laden career but said she's scared to run the marathon. “Yes, I’m still scared of the marathon, I’ve only done four and they’re all different,” she explains. “You’re uncomfortable for two hours or more and the brain wants to protect you," she adds.

The three-time Olympic champion maintained that recovery is her biggest strength, something that she has enjoyed during her formative years to date. “I also recover very quickly, whenever I do a session, my heart rate drops like crazy. When I was younger during track sessions, I was dying on the ground. But after a minute, I jump back up and I’m ready to do another," she observed.

Taking risks has been Hassan's secret weapon and embracing challenges, coupled with her never-say-die attitude, have made the three-time Diamond League champion a global icon in all her four disciplines.

“I recover great, that’s good, but the rest is the challenge, I love the extra challenge. I like to try things out. I’m not scared... I mean, I am scared but I like to try things. Does it work or does it not? That’s what makes me better than others, I try.”
