Olympic champion Noah Lyles has confirmed that he was not at his best against YouTube sensation IShowSpeed in a recent 50m charity race showdown.

Olympic champion Noah Lyles has confirmed speculation that he was not fully fit in the recent showdown against YouTuber Darren Jason Watkins Jr, popularly known as IShowSpeed or simply Speed.

Lyles emerged victorious in a closely contested 50-meter charity race against the YouTube sensation prompting a lot of speculation.

While Lyles secured the $100,000 prize, the race made headlines for Speed’s surprisingly competitive performance against the world-class sprinter.

The showdown raised eyebrows as the gap between the two seemed narrower than expected with many speculating that Lyles was not giving his all during the race.

“This wasn’t close at all,” remarked Olympic sprinter Gabby Thomas, dismissing the notion that Speed genuinely challenged Lyles.

Former American sprinter Justin Gatlin added his perspective, suggesting, “Noah Lyles was playing with his food,” implying that Lyles deliberately held back, making the race appear closer than it truly was.

Lyles has since confirmed these suspicions, admitting he was not at his peak.

“It is not really a possibility of him winning because he already lost, and that was the worst part of my race,” Lyles said in a recent training video.

“If you can’t beat me at my worst, you definitely are not beating me at my best," he added, asserting his authority.

Despite the defeat, Speed has been vocal about his performance, claiming Lyles is hesitant to face him again because of how 'close' their last race appeared.

For now Lyles has shutdown talks of a potential rematch, choosing to focus on his training ahead of the 2025 season.
