Kenyan sprinter Mark Otieno has begun training for the 2025 season, as he opened up about his main inspiration, after a mixed 2024 season and aims to make an impact at the World Championships in Tokyo
Mark Otieno has already started his training ahead of a busy 2025 season with the main focus being the World Championships in Tokyo, Japan.
The Kenyan sprint sensation opened up about motivation from his son, Luke, as he looks to make an impact on the global scene after a mixed 2024 season where he achieved some wins but also had some losses.
Showing proof that he was back in the grind, he shared a photo of himself in training with his son watching him from the stands as he disclosed that despite his son not being very involved in what he does, he definitely plays a huge role in his hunger for success.

Mark Otieno reveals ambitious plans as he eyes Los Angeles 2028 Olympic games
Mark Otieno is not giving up on his Olympic dream just yet as he eyes the L.A. 2028 Olympic Games, which might be his final Olympics.
“Off-season training with the newest addition to my coaching team. He doesn't do or say much, but I work hardest when he's around,” Mark Otieno captioned the photo shared on his Instagram handle.
Meanwhile, Mark Otieno returned to competition in 2023 after being banned for testing positive for the banned anabolic steroid methasterone as he was due to compete in the 100m heats of the delayed 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.
This year, Mark Otieno has competed in several events including an indoor tour before switching gears to outdoor races where he made his first Kenyan team, competing at the World Athletics Relays in the Bahamas.
Mark Otieno then proceeded to the Kenyan Olympic trials where he did not achieve the qualification time for the Paris Olympics following his second-place finish in the men’s 100m in a time of 10.12 seconds.
He then proceeded to the Africa Athletics Championships where he was unable to get to the final of the men’s 100m and did not achieve the Olympic qualification time either. He was also part of the Kenyan relay team that finished fifth. Otieno ended his season with a third-place finish at the International Wiesław Maniak Memorial.
