Julius Yego is still hopeful about bouncing back to the top as he seeks a great comeback next season, with the 2025 World Championships the main priority.
Yego has struggled with injuries in previous seasons but 2024 has been somewhat fruitful for him as he made it to the Olympic Games and managed to compete in a series of Diamond League Meetings and continental showpieces.
The 2015 world champion penned a lengthy message on his Facebook page, explaining why he had to end his season early and noting that he will bounce back stronger next year. He expressed pride to have had a smooth season and extended a hand of gratitude to people who have walked with him through the good and bad days.

Julius Yego under pressure to deliver in Zurich with Diamond League Final slot hanging by a thread
Kenya’s Julius Yego heads to Zurich with little margin for error as he is in danger of missing the lucrative Diamond League Final slot unless he posts impressive results.
“We end it there for now after some health issues! It’s been fun at the end of this season I enjoyed every bit of it and I got to smile again after the last few years of dissatisfaction and disappointment,” Yego said.
“Thanks to everyone who cheered, clapped and supported me in this journey before Paris, during Paris and after the Paris Olympics your support kept me going and aiming higher, I will be back even stronger and better,” he added.
Yego added that his focus is now on enjoying his off-season with his family as he plots to make a strong comeback next season.
“Now it is time to go home and have time with my lovely family to laugh, celebrate and have fun together. See you again my fam. #offseason begins,” he said.
Yego started his season with a silver medal after throwing 81.74m at the African Games before finishing ninth and eighth at the Kip Keino Classic and the Diamond League Meeting in Doha respectively.
Yego bounced back to claim wins at the Kenyan Championships and Kenyan Olympic trials before claiming his fifth title at the African Athletics Championships. At the Olympic Games, he finished fifth after clearing 87.72m. After the Olympics, Yego competed at the Diamond League Meetings in Lausanne and Zurich before ending his season.
