Shericka Jackson spoke about the moment she had self doubt and how she managed to overcome the issues.
Shericka Jackson is undoubtedly one of the greatest sprinters but at some point, in her life, she never thought the 100m and 200m would be her favourite events.
The reigning world 200m champion admitted that after the pandemic, her coach Stephen Francis advised that she focuses on the 100m and 200m as they were gearing up for the delayed 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.
She had competed in the 400m at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games where she claimed a bronze medal and had also won a bronze in the same distance at the 2019 World Championships and was hopeful of maintaining the 400m in Tokyo.

Stephen Francis sheds light on the rift between Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce & Elaine Thompson-Herah at MVP: 'It became too much'
Both Fraser-Pryce & Thompson-Herah were teammates for a long time at MVP under Stephen Francis' guidance, but their rise to becoming world class sprinters naturally created animosity between the two.
Shericka Jackson revealed that shifting her focus to the 100m and 200m, she had doubts about making the Jamaican national team but luckily, she finished second in both races at the Olympic trials and made it to the Olympic Games. She eventually won a silver in the 100m but missed out on a medal in the 200m.
However, people might not know what she was going through in that moment. Jackson told Sim Soul Sessions that it was one of the most difficult moments of her life as her friends did not believe in her and she had to let them go. She added that coming from the pandemic, she was yet to switch back fully and was still stressed after adding weight.
However, Stephen Francis believed in her abilities and walked with her through the journey, something she would never forget.
“It was hard, I think it was difficult and sometimes it’s still difficult. With the help of my therapist and I think so many things. I want to achieve so many things, I wanted an Olympic 200m medal but did not achieve it,” Shericka Jackson said.
“Prior to the Olympics, there was so much that was bothering me mentally…I had friends and I say had, because sometimes you have to know that some people are just supposed to be a part of the chapter. Leading up to the Olympics, coach and I decided that we wanted to run the 100m and 200m.
“I did not believe in myself because I was overweight and was struggling mentally because it was the year after the pandemic. I had friends who doubted me and I went to coach and told him I was not going to run that event because I didn’t believe I could make it.”
