Julien Alfred has disclosed her love for legendary sprinter Usain Bolt as she revealed why she always wanted him to win every race he competed in.
The reigning Olympic 100m champion revealed that she grew up watching Usain Bolt and she always vouched for him to triumph in every race of his since his wins felt closer to home. At the time, there were no athletes from Saint Lucia in the line ups of major races like the World Championships and Olympic Games.
Speaking in an interview with the Telegraph, Julien Alfred added that she had the vision of becoming like Usain Bolt and is grateful that things have started aligning with the double world record holder.

Usain Bolt is one of the most decorated sprinters in the world and he is the fastest man alive. With two world records to his name and multiple world and Olympic titles, ideally, it would be every sprinter’s dream to be like him.
“In grade six, we were asked what we wanted to be when we grew up and I said, ‘the female Usain Bolt’. Its very cringe saying it now, but I wanted to be just like him,” Julien Alfred said.
“I grew up watching him, watching all his races. We didn’t have any St Lucians in the race, so I was always wanting him to win, I wanted Usain Bolt to win, he was my idol. I looked up to him.”
The sprint sensation from Saint Lucia made a name for herself at the Paris Olympic Games where she stunned the whole world to claim top honours in the women’s 100m, becoming her country’s first Olympic medallist. Sha’Carri Richardson and Melissa Jefferson finished second and third in the race.
She then went on to claim the silver medal in the women’s race, finishing second behind Gabby Thomas. Brittany Brown rounded up the podium.
Julien Alfred was not done making waves as she went on to finish second at the Diamond League Meeting in Zurich before capping off her season with a win at the Diamond League Meeting final in Brussels.
